There has been a major increase in the number of people who suffer from diabetes over the world. The disease refers to a condition when your body cannot produce or use insulin in a proper way. Insulin has the function of converting sugar, starches and other food that you consume into energy, required to perform the activities of our daily lives. Although there is no specific reason to explain the cause of the disease, genetics and environmental factors play a major role to set this disease in a person.
There are various ways to stave off diabetes, the most recent and the easiest being, creating a coconut oil rich diet. The results of a new study indicate that coconut oil in your food can prevent insulin resistance in your muscles and fat. The results of another similar study also suggest that such diet prevents accumulation of body fat and guards your body against weight gain and high blood sugar level.
Coconut oil contains medium chain fatty acids that reduce the amount of fat in your body. The researchers led by Dr. Nigel Turner arrived at this conclusion after comparing the resistance level of fat metabolism and insulin in mice that were fed coconut oil and lard-based diets. Mr. Turner who practices at the Garvan Institute of Medical Research explained that the behavior of the medium chain fatty acids that is found in coconut oil is very different from the fats that are normally present in our diets. It can easily make its way into the mitochondria and get converted into energy.
